Lea are you talking about a sheet of PVC like a shower liner....if so go to WalMart they have the liners in clear, white and frosted that are PVC free (under $4) If they do not have them Target carries the heavier quality PVCfree liners for a little more....simply rinse in a little vinergar water, rinse again and hang them to dry.

ah...gotcha....it should be fine, the pvc piping is used in parrot cages often. If it is the same material it should be fine. Just wash it down well before using.

i read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinyl_chloride
and i'm not sure is it really safe, cause other sites tells, that pvc can cause cancer, liver diseases. but they don't say why, or it can harm because of interaction with air, or just touching it or sth else

this is the same stuff you use for joints and such like in plumbing?

Do you have a manufacture name...perhaps contact them for the exact composition of the material. They also use PVC in showers, the one piece inserts, that is safe.

Lea,
The p.v.c is fine to use- no problems
I made all of my feeders, perches, drinkers out of it.
I pay $55.00 for a 4x8x1/4 sheet. Right now I'm making breeding cages out of it

Lea, what about a thicker piece of frosted plexiglass? That is perfectly fine to use.

Yes, I know that it can be toxic if exposed to extreme heat or if something was to chew on it,but our water supply lines are still made of it to this day.I have been using this stuff for 10 + years with out any problems. I wouldn't use it if it was going kill birds. Check this out, ever notice when your car windows are rolled up, when very hot after a period of time you notice a film on the inside of your cars windshield? those are gases that are released from your cars interior.
Just some food for thought.

I agree with Lou, there are so many things PVC is used for around here and I've never heard of a bird dying from being exposed to it.
good luck
