mouth marking question

Post by 6finchfriends » Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:19 pm

I noticed in a photo I took of my baby Society's one of them doesn't have any mouth markings like the others. Does this mean it's going to be albino? Or could it be a dark eyed white maybe? The only information I can find on other finch species says albino are the only ones that don't have mouth markings.
No mouth markings in chick on left.

Albinos would have pink eyes under the eyelids, though... :?

White or pied zebra finches often don't have mouth marks, so I would guess the same goes with other finches. So, most likely a white bird.

I really do wish that I had taken better pics and documented this one better  The baby on the bottom turned out to be an albino 8) His eyes are no where near as dark as his white siblings.

I see what you mean Janine. the bottom chick is very pale with very light eyes. My Soc parents are both saddleback pieds so they are mostly white. That might be why this chick doesn't have mouth markings. It has a tiny bit of dark pigment on one wing so I'm thinking it will probably be a nearly white with dark eyes. Thanks everyone. I love photographing. I use my small flat Cybershot on the macro setting. I really can't even see in the nest when I'm taking photos. I just hope for the best. I find every day exciting!
