New Zebbies!!
Hi, I'm new to the forum and finally obtained some zebra finches like I've been wanting to. I wanted a male and female pair, the person I got them from thought they were but before I even bought them I could tell it was two females, but I went ahead and got them because it was good deal and I can easily get a couple males. Anyway, I was trying to determine what color my girls are, think I figured it out but not sure. One looks like a lightback female to me, she looks fawn but yet has a bright white belly and very dark tear marks, her tail is so boldly black and white as well. The other I know the parents were a lightback male and a white female but I can't remember if it was a pure white or not. I don't think she had tear marks though. This female I have is white, but her markings are very diluted, fawn colored. I'll get pics up later, but just got them home. If a lightback bred with a white what is my white girl called? I'm not sure the name of that color? Thanks!
Loving owner to Juniper the Aussie/Heeler mix, 8 zebra finches, one pair of red-cheeked cordon blues and one pair of red-billed firefinches.

Re: New Zebbies!!
I meant to add the pics sooner, but here they are. The look a bit rough in some pics, especially the dark one. The previous owner put them with a canary who plucked back and chest feathers. I am almost positive my dark female is a lightback as she came from the same place as the lightback male who is the father of my white one and her coloring isn't normal grey. I was thinking that my white ones mother was a CFW because she was white with light markings. A lightback male to CFW female could easily get a CFW female so I wouldn't be suprised if my girl was a CFW. I haven't named them yet but am working on it
They're so adorable and I'm glad to have them, I can't wait to get some males, but I'm waiting til they are settled in and probably til their feathering comes back.
You might be able to see the white female her fawnish dusting covers the top of her head and back, is that normal for a CFW or does that have something to do with having a lightback father?

Re: New Zebbies!!
It does look like you are right and have a Lightback and a CFW hen
They sure are cute! My CFW hen looks the same with more of a cream color then white. I have the same question with her as I dont think she is just that. Im wondering is she is a CFW Fawn? I seen a picture on efinch.com of one and she has that same brownish tint. What do you think?

here is my Fawn CCFW female with Ng pied male

zebra finches - Snjólfur og Sibru Hríma by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
The difference between CFW, CCFW and Fawn CCFW is:
CFW is lighter than CCFW. Black/darkbrown tear but lightbrown, lightgray tailbars.
Body feathers almost white.
Also have black eyes.
Markings strong on males.
Born black with black eyes.
CCFW is Darker; black tear, very dark or black tailbars, red/ruby red eyes. Diluted markings on males.
Body feathers more cream.
Born pink with red eyes.
CCFW means: Continential chestnut flanked white.
Fawn CCFW have lightbrown markings, feathers more fawn cream.
Also born pink with red eyes.
And it seams that the other female is Lightback.
Hope they will grew some feathers soon

Re: New Zebbies!!
hi
dont worry the feathers will soon grow back, the missing feathers on the back of the neck are typical of bullying, sometimes when you get a male zebra that is trying to mate wiyh a female that is not interested in him, thats the first place they pluck the feathers.you have 2 females so the feathers will soon grow back to normal and there should be no more plucking seeing as they where together when you got them.....very nice birds! if you get a normal cock bird and it ends up mating with the cfw you will get some cfw male birds when the chicks arrive..................my favourite colour cfws i used to show them back in the 80s i love em

Re: New Zebbies!!
Thanks you guys! How exciting a Fawn CFW and a Lightback, I was looking at getting a beautiful pied male that I'd like to pair with the Lightback, he is heavily pied, white covering almost his entire face very similar to yours, Vargur, but this male barely has cheek patches. I might go for a normal grey male for the Fawn CFW. I can't wait to get some chicks!! Just got to decide on the males for sure and wait for a paycheck!
