What is going on??? Zebra feeding Societies???
Its been a weird morning. For the second time I have seen one of my Zebra males enter the Society nest (5 chicks) and be in there for some time. This morning he was in the nest and the Society male & hen are sitting outside waiting to get in. He wouldn't be doing any harm to them would he? I have even caught his mate Zila in that nest. Is there something I can do? The nests are somewhat close to one another. Zila and Zaks nest has 3 chicks in it. Just know I saw the male Zebra chase the Society male away from the front of the nest. Would moving the Society nest to another cage cause problems for the chicks. Comments Please!

ooh, Sherry you have a real busy bird house don't you!
I'm no expert but I'd be worried too. I know Zebras are more aggressive when they are nesting. Could you some how put something between the nests so they can't see each other? hang a divider or even a towel? you might want to check out the Society chicks to make sure they are alright! I would be worried the Zebras are eliminating the competition for food. If you know what I mean.

Well Trish I tried to hide the Society nest from Zak but he found it anyway. He started hauling cotton fiber from an old nest into the Society nest. Oh! No! I said you can't do that. So I did something I hope was the right thing to do and I moved the Society nest into a double breeding cage then I caught the parents and set them up. Looks like that worked Mom and Dad have been in the nest already. Once I got the parents in the new cage I couldn't fit the large finch nest through the opening. YIKES!!!!! Good thing I had extra wire and wire cutters. Viola! a trap door in the ceiling with a new door. The nest slid right in
Doin the happy dance right now...... It looks like I have some dark feathered societies and some light colored. It won't be long till they are in and out of the nest. Can't wait.

I think you did the right thing!
A lot of Societies are very tolerant of change (mine are) so I'm very happy they took right up with it again!!! YAY!
I think Societies love their babies more than anything! Can't wait to see the little guys fledge. Whew, what a day you've had!!
Trap door!

Its music to my ears hearing the society chicks chirping to be fed. The parents seem less stressed now in the cage by themselves. They aren't being chased around by the Zebs....
