sunflower meat? peanut butter?

Post by nopEda » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:00 pm

I asked a person selling feed at a recent bird fair if sunflower meat is a good source of protein, and he said yes and it's a good source of oil too. My societies like it. Is it really a good protein source? Is the oil content significant?

How about peanut butter? One person told me about a bluebird food he used that has peanut butter in it. Being high in protein and a good source of oil, why isn't it more popular to feed peanut butter to finches?

Peanut butter only has slightly more protein then the sunflower. While they may be a higher protein food they are also high in calories. Over weight birds have many problems health wise and fertility wise. Unless you have your birds in a very large aviary I wouldn't recommend feeding them a lot of either.
