Hello all.
Recently I have discovered that a few of my poor birdies have grown their nails out so long that they are getting stuck on everything they land on.
I am very bad at grabbing them and am afraid that I am shortening their lives by how much I am stressing them out. Do you have any suggestions as to a way that they can keep their own nails trimmed up?
I do have one sandpaper perch in their cage but they never use it.
Thanks for your time.

Hi! Sandpaper perches are not comfortable nor good for finches feet. I wish they were not sold anywhere, ever! Try to get Pedi-Perches. These are cement perches available in different sizes either in pet stores or online. They help keep nails and beaks trim but you may still have to catch the birds once in a while if they grow them excessively.

You may also need to use a net or sheet of crinolin to catch the bird, a lot easier than trying to grab them w your hand.
