I live in southern Florida and also can't find dandelion. I actually ordered seeds on Ebay. (I grew up in Connecticut and if anyone up there knew I ordered dandelion seeds to grow on purpose I would never be welcome back!)
I also just spent a few weeks working in Kentucky and picked tons of seeding grasses as well as dandelions.

for some reason you can't even buy dandelion here...not like up north, mom had a patch she grew just for the birds.

Everybody come to my house and pick as many as you want! I have a field that never has chemicals on it. The chickweed only comes up here in the spring when it's not hot. When it gets dry it goes away. Gosh, I thought dandelion grew everywhere! i had no idea it didn't. Learn something new every day. That's a shame because all my finches love the dandelion leaves and flowers. They loved the chickweed even more until it went dormant.

Do you mean the leaves or the seeds? I buy the organic dandelion greens at whole foods or any one of the grocers here with organic produce. People like to eat these for health, and I tried it but didn't like it. Seeds on the other hand, I could not find in bulk.
By the way, my bird used to like the dandelion but now he ignores it. I guess he has his reasons.

Dandelions.... I just look out the window, and there they are  Up here they are a scourge! I have fed my birds nice organic ones from my lawn. They don't mind them. :?

Jacqui, have you tried the yellow blossoms and the dry seeds (without the fluff part, my finches are terrified of the seed things flying around) I cut the yellow petals off and mix with the leaves and they love it!

I'll have to try that. I've only given them the leaves before. Goodness knows there's never a shortage of the flowers around here!
