Re: Aviary Temperature
I keep the house at 77 in the hotter months and use a heat pump attempt in the winter, set at 68 any higher it feels to warm.
I have had birds breed in both temps!

Re: Aviary Temperature
Indoor birds in the winter are at about 65F and summer up to 90F. Outdoor birds in the winter are at 55F and in the summer whatever the weather is in NJ which can go as high as 100F with this crazy weather lately.
My gouldians breed in the heat of summer, by their choice.

Debbie...the weather up there has been a bit crazy....I am from up there and still keep in contact with friends up that way. You have had record heats and way to much water.

Re: Aviary Temperature
Boy oh boy aint that the truth! My town broke the old record for flooding set in 1904, a foot and a half over the record. There was only one road to get in and out of town not under water. Town was on lock down and the national guard set up a check-point allowing only residents in. Just 2 days ago the last of the flooded roads could be opened. We've been flooded since hurricane Irene. You have had record heats and way to much water.

Re: Aviary Temperature
I am originally from Hackettstown, the dam broke in Morris County and caused the rivers to overflow closing the town down twice. Budd Lake has been hit hart to with mud slides. Hope your town and you recover soon, how did your flock make out in all of this?

Re: Aviary Temperature
The outside aviary has a raised cement floor so it just had a moat around it from flash flooding. We're on high ground so we don't flood, we just can't leave the house. lol
I was really worried about all the wet and damp but so far so good. The gouldians have fertile eggs so I'm trying not to disturb them too much but still watch closely for signs of distress. I'm a town over from where Pres. Obama visited, he landed his plane in our tiny airport, Fairfield.

Re: Aviary Temperature
Thanks Cindy and PA for your kind words.
If I make it through this dampness without an issue I don't think I'll ever have to worry about high humidity.
