Gouldian rainbows

I thought I would post some of my 2011 chicks that were born this spring at the aviary. I didn't breed as many this spring...only about 100 babies

I have a new striking color mutation that I will be trying to breed... a seagreen (more under the genetics topic)

I had some of every color this year

Stealing a word - but it fits best - stunning! I have my definite favorite mutations - but honestly, there's nothing more gorgeous to me than a flight with some of every color.

I'm particularly a fan of the OH cock far left in the 6th picture down, and the RH WB Normal hen (closest to camera) in the 8th picture

Now you've intrigued my curiosity, Tiffany, what about those birds catches your eye (if you don't mind me trying to learn from you).

I know you've had some big winning show birds and I love all the photos I've seen of your birds (including Dave's!!)

Well it's hard to see the OH too much because of the position so I can't really make TOO much of an informed decision but I really like his head and he looks full bodied.

The hen, I like her positioning, the size and shape of her head and beak, and her size

That male is definitely very densely feathered on his head -- I had to look at the hen a little bit but once I did I noticed that she does appear a bit bigger than those around her and has a very well-balanced look. I'm sure it takes years to get that 'eye' down.

Thanks everyone... I just love these gouldian birds

It is so hard for me to judge a bird by a photograph... All depending on the angle, how they are sitting, the lighting, and the novice photographer that I am, can make all the difference in the world. Plus I had caught these up and placed in smaller cages. Moving birds around, some new pairs from 2010 are being set up for fall breeding, some are going to the store for sale, and some will move to the big flights for futher maturing. So after catching and combining they were pretty tired and most definately tired of me messing with them..... then I got in their faces with a camera
