Not interested in mineral blocks!

Post by RigorMortisKitten » Wed Nov 23, 2011 4:45 pm

I know that it is important for birds to get calcium and iodine, so i have provided them with two mineral blocks - the problem is that they dont care about them  maybe they dont know that they are edible ?

When i had canaries, they always used the cuttlebones/mineral blocks - but my two societies dont.

Is there anything i can do to let them know how to use the blocks ? Or should i just grind them up to powder and put the powder in their food ?

Not sure how to get them to try something they don't want. Maybe they would prefer egg shells instead, all I give mine are oyster shells and egg shells.

I grind up all my cuttlebones and mineral blocks and just sprinkle it on their seed and I offer them oyster shells in a seperate dish

You can always give them more if they'll eat it but oyster shells and egg shells have worked for me for years. :)

Try grating the cuttlebone & a flavored mineral block (pineapple ne goes over well PetSmart or WalMart) with a fine cheese grater, mix with powdered oyster shell or ground (cooffe grinder) Higgins Snakck Attack Mineral

I don't think Society's need added iodine, but mine love the cuttlebones. I also sprinkle vitamins or Feather Fast over their veggies once in a while.
