I found this little handing toy in a pet shop... It's got little plastic stars and hearts that have a mirror coating on one side and colored plastic on the other, and have bells attached at the bottoms. In total it's about 2" wide and maybe 2 or 3" long.
My Gouldians LOVE that thing. The males will go up, and play with the bells "poking at it" for a while. Sometimes the males will stand on the perch next too it (when the mirror side is showing) and sing. The females also seem to "poke at it" but they tend to ignore the bells an go after the mirrors...
I also have this little hanging plastic cup that has "strings" (cocunut fibers?) hanging out from under it. The birds love to tug at the strings and have a ball with that one too.
However, by far, the favorite toy in the flight cage is the swing!! At one point I saw 4 birds (two on the dowl rod and 1 on each side of the metal hang bars) on it. They also seem to play this "game" where one finch will land on the swing off to one side, another will land on the opposite side, take off but hold onto the perch part for as long as they can "dragging" the swing with them until they let go. The first bird then goes for "the ride of their life" swinging back and forth, sometimes with enough force for the swing to hit the top of the cage.
It seems to be some kind of "finch game" too see who can hang on the longest (like bull riding)!!

I think it also depends on the species of finch. My cut throats are obsessed with their mirror. A favorite amoung all mine though is definitely the swing... lets see, some others liked are:

Things that they can preen, pull on, my zebras like bells... they also like them to be moved around and changed every once in awhile. I normally only do toys in non-breeding flights though b/c sometimes toys can distract some finches from breeding.[/img]

That's a definite YES on the Mirrors !
However, I've found that my Birds like one that "dangles", rather than is up against the side of the Cage. I think the movement of their image is what attracts them. I have a four sided little box type mirror that they peck at and spin around, jump on it, and pull on the cord it's hanging on.
Other things like "anything that dangles", little cords I use to tie the Grit Paper on a Perch, stuff like that.
There's hardly anything you can put with them, that they won't find some fun in.
Have a good Day !

Re: What Toys?
There are a variety of bird toys available to suit your birds of needs. In your case it is better to select toys that are appropriate for the type and size of your bird. In generall toys that are too large may frighten smaller birds. Wood and plastic toys are a good choice but make sure the material they are made of is qualitative enough.
