National Cage Bird Show in Denver

For those of you in Colorado, don't forget the National Cage Bird Show in Denver Nov 15-17. I believe tomorrow is for check-in of show birds, and the show will take place Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. If it is as big as has been promoted, there will be lots of birds there, not just finches, but all kinds of pet birds. A chance to see some species you just won't find in petshops! Also some of the big vendors should be there, and there are some seminars, too.

Well I went to the show and came home with two beautiful societies, one from a winning show line. I bought them from Sally Huntington of San Diego, who is the President of NFSS.

I bought a pearl cock and a fawn hen. I will post pictures soon. She was also selling her owls for $60.00, which was really hard to pass up, but I forced myself to only buy two and these two societies are really beautiful! Plus, it is not every day you see a pearl society! The pearl has a very different song from my other male society, it is interesting.

Anyway, it was good, I guess there will be more for sale tomorrow. They had a lot of birds though.... a TON of canaries!

Congratulations on the new birds! Glad you were able to get something special. Look forward to photos of them. How was the show? On one of my other finch groups, someone from Colorado complained that it wasn't worth going to, which really surprised me. I assumed that there would be lots of birds there, with many species that you don't get to see very often.

I think that I definitely did not go at the right time, I wish I would have gone Saturday instead of Friday, just b/c all the judging was going on when I was there. But there were still several birds for sale, and there were some great hookbills. There was a $15,000 macaw there (the owners of course wouldn't let anyone touch him). It was so close to me that it was worth going for me.

Beautiful birds, Emily! For me, it is fun just to watch some of the judging. I've only been to a couple of bird shows, but the judges were very good about explaining why they placed birds where they did, so I feel I learned a lot about conformation. Also, as with any competition, there is an art to showing, just like with horses--the best-prepared ones are going to stand out.

they are really nice birds and very clean.the good thing about the shows is you can see the face of the person who is selling them and ask for advice etc i loved all the shows but we are not allowed them in the uk anymore
