Choosing Stock Birds (Goldfinches)

Post by batuhan » Fri Dec 30, 2011 1:33 pm

Firstly choose the goldfinch with reddest head, bright red face .
in male goldfinches bright red color signal his excellent health and less or without parasites.
and the female goldfinches choose with deep red colored male goldfinches to mate with him.
check the birds chest if you see razor sharp breast bone then it is in''going light''and that bird is not for you.
if the bird's eyes bright, shiny it is ok. but if its sleepy half closed eye it is not healty bird.

the best male goldfinch should have :
large head
deep red color face .
long tail.
long thick legs
bright-thick bill.
dark deep blak color head and tail .
bright feathers .

never buy a puffed up birds.

it can be told hundreds about this but when I buy a goldfinch I only check two things :

1-I choose the bird is active and alert.
2-if it is in ''going light'' or not ?

Let me describe you how I got my first pair of goldfinches in an Australian pet shop.It was a large aviary with over a 100 wild caught goldfinches. One of the store keepers used a net and scooped several birds in flight and we hand picked a male and a female from inside the net.Couldn't do to much choosing, the birds got very stressed with people inside flashing a net.Because they were all newly wild caught they all had bright colours as you would expect to see in the wild.
