Green Singers quieter than usual

Post by PrettyBird » Tue Feb 07, 2012 12:03 pm

My two GS are very quiet these days. They dont really sing as much as they did last week. They seem in a ho hum kinda mood. Just sitting there on the perches, and going to eat etc.

The GBWs are always active and lively.

Is this normal for GS to have days where they just dont want to sing or do much? Or could they be under the weather?

Seperate them for a while if you can?
They can be just like canaries, if they are together the male won't sing!
I may have the exception, my boy sings all the time even though they have a 11 day old chick in the nest.

Mine can get in that ho hum mood when it is a dark dreary new England day. Could it be the weather there?

hm... on rainy, dark days (even though they have lighting) my birds are all in their nests sleeping around like people do, except for my waxbills, they are always going bonkers like the each ate a giant pixie stick. The waxbills just love flying around

It could be because its a little cooler today. Where the cage is, the natural sun hits it at certain times during the day. Ive had to have the light on today so maybe could be combination...although as soon as 1 pm rolled around and there was some sunlight hitting the cage I saw both green singers bathing :)

Dante- yea my gbws are the same, they are always moving about (or mating all over the place).

They are still very quiet..they wont move around much at all. Seems like they have been sitting on the perches all day long without a peep. I have no idea if they are sick or not...The weather is very mild and sunny today.

I noticed yellow/grey feathers on the floor so I think they are moulting right now too.

My society finches are doing exactly the same right now! I have 4 of them, and i think that they are more quiet than usual :S I haven't heard the female chirp for a while now, and the males dont sing as much. At first i though that they did this because they picked up on my mood... i haven't been feeling well the last couple of days - but now i think that it can be the weather or that its time for molting ?

It has been extra cold and dark here in sweden for the last couple of days, som maybe it has affected them ... I have also noticed small feathers and a few tailfeathers on the floor outside the cage, so maybe they are molting and therefore act more "muted" than usual!

Ok its been over a week and they are still the same. I think something is wrong :?

They arent active at all, and just sit on the perch all day long. They only come down to eat or drink. Lucy does one or two chirps when going to eat then thats it.

They arent fluffed up, their eyes are open. They are just sitting there stone like.
I know they are moulting since spring is on it way. Ive just NEVER seen this happen before.

The GBWs that are with them are in constant motion. Up until 2 wks ago so were the GS...and now they are so quiet and wont move anywhere...this is not an exageration..they seriously wont move from the perch ALL day long.

Should I give them some medication? Help
