Pre-mixing calcium plus?

Post by nelloyello11 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 6:22 pm

If I make a large batch of water + calcium plus, can I keep it in the fridge for a week or so, or does it lose its potency like some meds do?

What does the packaging say, most packets recommend to make the amount you are going to use in a day, if it was me I wouldn't store it ij the fridge for more than a few days. If the amount on the packet is stating 5ml to every litre and that's to much you can cut iy in half if that helps.

Calcium Plus is so easy to add that I just add it to the water when I give them water. 1/2 dose = 1/8 teaspoon for 2 oz water. And I only have max of 2 water tubes that I deal with at the same time.

I only premix stuff that is hard to dose individually, like Ronix and ACV.

Ronix is hard to dose out for a small quantity. It is too hard to measure the small/tiny amount needed for 1 days dosage.

ACV. I just started premixing ACV into the water, 3/4 teaspoon : 1/2 gal water. I was getting tired of using the eye dropper and counting 16 or 32 drops into a pint or quart measuring cup of water. For the baths I was doing two 32 oz cups, so I was counting out 64 drops of ACV.

I find the calcium plus starts making type of gritty slime layer after a day in my drinking containers. I'd not premix it. Easy enough to dose for the day you need it only.

@dan78 - the container doesn't say one way or another. It just gives the dosage instructions, no info as to whether it can be stored for X days, or to mix fresh daily, as most Morning Bird products do...
@Gary- it definitely is easier to mix than some others. But I use the Lixit ball-valve and they work best if they are full to begin with. For whatever reason, if they are not full when they are closed, they tend to leak. Since they are different sizes (5 & 10 oz), it's tougher to come up with the right proportions.
@monotwine- That is good to know! I can normally let my drinkers go for a few days, since I use the ball-valve type, but I guess I would have to limit it to a day, or two, at the most when I give calcium!
