What to feed during hatchling time (Zebs)

Post by MartinKC » Sun Mar 18, 2012 12:33 pm

Much to my surprise my pied Zebs have 3 little ones in the nest right now. I think they are about 4 days old.

Anyway...mom and dad seem to be ignoring their "normal" seed diet (Higgins) and only eating the boiled egg and Millet that I offer twice a day (pulling the egg after an hour.).

Should I keep refreshing the egg more often?

I do believe you should keep giving the egg,but leave seeds in just in case

Seems fine, they may eat some seed when you are not around but the millet ajd eggfood are good choices. Try chopping some carrots up finely, and crushed eggshell if you have not already

be careful with the egg shell when the chicks are so tiny. the sharp edges could cut the little ones crops. You could mix some scraped (dust like)cuttle bone with the egg instead. That way you won't have to worry about sharp edged egg shell and the chicks will still get extra calcium. Congratulations on the new chicks!!! =D>
