safe or not safe?
This morning I thought I had discovered a quick and easy way to give my finches something good. I had a bag of frozen brussels sprouts, took one out and thawed it under water for a minute or so, then sliced it in half to give my 2 birds a super-easy finch-sized snack.
Looking back through the FIC section on safe, toxic and unsafe foods, I see brussels sprouts are listed as potentially unsafe, along with a whole lot of other things including kale, lettuce and millet (!).
Does anyone here give their birds brussels sprouts? If so how often?
By the way there are reference numbers attached to statements in the FIC nutrition section but I couldn't find the reference list.

I have been feeding my birds the brussels spouts for few years and they love them - never did much reseach as friends from Gabriel Foundation told me the trick - However see some opinions on this website and I have to agree http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww18eii.htmkathmcm wrote:This morning I thought I had discovered a quick and easy way to give my finches something good. Moderation with all foods like romaine, kale, broccoli etc are the key. Never tried brussel sprouts....I am not a fan personally!!!

Mine will eat brussel sprouts but it's not their favorite. They love grit most of all (and millet, of course). They also have had kale and love romaine lettuce and alfalfa sprouts best.

If you click on one of the reference numbers, the reference list will pop up. That list of foods on the right in the FIC are ones to be given in moderation, but that probably would be true of most foods. BTW, my fids never get brussels sprouts, only because I love brussels sprouts too much to ever share them!kathmcm wrote:By the way there are reference numbers attached to statements in the FIC nutrition section but I couldn't find the reference list.
