Sick Female Zebra

Post by horsel02 » Sun Jul 22, 2012 9:40 am

My sister's female zebra finch is not feeling well. She is all fluffed out and her vent area is dirty. I moved her to a hospital cage and will be putting a lamp on her. Is there anything else I should be doing. I have checkout the Finch Information Center, but could not find what I should be doing. We have only be into finches for several months.

The first thing I suspect on a female is eggbinding. If you have liquid calcium, give her one drop in the beak. If you don't have bird liquid calcium, you can go to the drugstore and get human liquid calcium (thanks to kenny66 for that tip). Keep the heat up, and you can also drape a wet towel over at least part of the cage to provide lots of humidity.

Here is a link to the recent thread about an eggbinding emergency, with kenny's advice.
