Bug Bomb safe in basement?
My basement is basically just for grandkids toyroom. I have noticed some bugs down there; they have taken up residence in the two dollhouses. Would a bug bomb be safe to use in the basement? I would close all the registers upstairs that have that option. What about the registers that don't have closures.........what are they for anyway? Should I tape newspapers over all the registers just to be safe???

Bug bombs should not be used in a home with birds, it is meant to travel through an area and settle, I would not risk it. You can move the birds to another home for a bit while you treat, then move them back.
Try a direct spray or take all the toys up and set traps for a few days. Border spraying may help or tacky strips with a little bait in it may work.

There usually is a number you can call on these poison things. Your registers and ducts connect all the rooms to the main ventilation system. If you did decide to do something like this, I would cover all the registers in the basement, to keep the fumes from going into the rest of the system, where they would be dispersed once you started the system back up.
Those things always say remove all pets and cover all aquariums. Covering the aquariums works for the fish, but I don't know if covering bird cages would do any good, considering they have a much more sensitive respiratory system.
There are things that can be used safely around birds yet will kill bugs. I use Avian Insect Liquidator, spray it around the area I am concerned about, and have had no problems with it.

Ditto on the Avian Insect Liquidator! That stuff is amazing. I use it to keep spiders at bay in my basement - also works on flies, fruit flies - even those pesky moths. If you haven't tried it, it might be a good idea to use this - or something like it - first. If it doesn't eliminate your bugs, then you can go for the "big guns".

Terri at Glamorous Gouldians carries it. If you haven't ordered from her before - I can totally vouch for her. She knows what the term "customer service" really means - and has a huge selection of products. (Can you tell I really like this company?)
