is Fennel/Anise leaves safe for birds?

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Is it safe to feed the canaries with Fennel/Anise leaves? Thanks.

I've heard of songbirds eating the seed but not the leaves. One site I found said Anise is said to be poisonous to some birds such as pigeons.

When in doubt, do without
