s76 toxicity

Post by moonpies » Sat Apr 27, 2013 1:50 pm

Anyone ever have a bird get ivermectin toxicity from s76? I did! She has been rolling around in her cage and having seizures all week. Feeling a little better this morning. She is able to stand.apparently some birds can be sensitive to it as it was not an overdose just a bad reaction.

Oh My...that is scary!!! I'm glad your bird is doing better...but you must have been scared to death  . I have read that Ivermectin in general, can be toxic and kill birds. I think this is true for many animals, especially if there is a Chrysanthemum allergy. I have been using Iverlux for my birds, but recently purchased S76 because I heard it was the best. Best of luck with your bird.

There was another thread about this on the finchforum a few years ago:

Iverlux and S76 have exactly the same ingredients, Ivermectin 0.8 g/L
Slippery Elm

Sending good vibes for a speedy recovery

I gave it to my male as well at the same time same amount which is one drop under the wing. He is almost twice her size she is very petite so I dont know if that has anything to do with it and she had had the normal dose and trwatment with it mixed with their water around 2 months agoand all was good. So im guessing the direct application was just too much for her.s76 from my research is supposed to b the safest thing to use for airsac mite and other parasitesas it is not has harsh as the ingrediant in scatt which is moxidectin. But birds like people are all different. So to say the least I will use caution with her.glad to report she has made some improvement today. She is now walking around and able to see again. And no seizure activity at all.cookie is on the mend..fingers crossed!
