All Mesh/Wire Breeding Cages

Post by DanteD716 » Wed Aug 28, 2013 4:05 am

Could somebody please give me an idea (or if you have instructions/blue prints that'd be pretty amazing) on how to build all mesh/wire cages and flights? I know there is the cyling shaped flight that Oshtay has posted previously (I did make one of those) but I would like to make 30x18x18 mesh breeding cages, that I could put two side by side, and the have them stacked three high, for a total of 6 cages... and then I was thinking of Having three 60inch long flights stacked too. And then use the aviary for doves.. I'd like to get some.. Thanks!

all you need is these and there is no limit to what you can do..
the clip thingies sit in the plier type thingos and put around the wire you want to join and sqeeze and it curls arond it..cut holes for doors and nest boxes, make the door a row larger than hole leaving some horizoltal wire exposed for hinges.use some dog clips to lock doors etc etc but dont stack them hang them so you can put some clear table cover material over the bottom cages for easy cleanup and so the birds under dont cop all the poop etc in there food and water..to save wire id make the rows in one unit devided with the wire insted of separate.

One of my favorite tools! I cut the wire with sidecutters. It leaves sharp edges which are fine except for the door space where you can cut your hands. Fortunately, office supply departments/stores carry report binder bars - like used on the report covers here: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/6 ... ar-Report/ They work great.

E-Finch has a very nice cage-making tutorial: http://efinch.com/cagebuilding/cageconst.htm

OMG!!! Your are a Genius! I've been scratching my arms on my cages for years, because I was too lazy to buy the actual metal door frame kits you can order.

I am going out to buy some of these TODAY!

 Not a genius... :D My first purchased all-wire cages yeeearrrrrrs ago, had something like these protecting the door edges. When I started making my own, I tried the report spines and they worked really well. They have lasted for many years - never cracking or needing replacement - and I like that at cleaning time, they just pop right off and can be washed and disinfected.

You should check this out: Snappanel 47"x36" white mesh 4-pack

I just used this to build a large flight. It is already coated and so you won't need to paint it, and it comes in flat panels so there is no need to deal with those expensive hardware cloth rolls.

I use these and have used them for the covering the rough edges of cage door openings and for giving an area to stand on and make more stable when I make home made nest boxes. Target has them in the school supply section!!

The website says they are 1/2" square, which would make them ideal for indoor cages and flights. For my area, with so many snakes and predators outside, I would go more for 1/4" for outside aviaries.

Yes, they are in the garden section. I found it ideal because it is coated (although, white) and I believe it is cheaper than the wire mesh. I will post photos of my new flight soon. For now, it's time to teach botany! :)
