I Connected Two Cages Together
I got the idea from other people posting about theirs, so I tried it, and I really like this cage. It houses Pete and Gwen and 7 of their 9 children. (Two have been sold.) Here are photos:
I have it sitting on top of my Double Wide budgie male cage. My plan is to make another one of these for over the budgie hen cage, and house the rest of my random finches in there, when they aren't breeding. (Societies, Owls and Stars)

Looks Great! What did you put underneath to catch droppings, seeds, etc.?

Re: I Connected Two Cages Together
I had the guy at Lowe's cut a piece of plywood to fit the top of the budgie cage, and it's sitting on that. That was more for the purpose of support, so that the smaller cage wouldn't bend the wire on the top of the larger cage, but it does help prevent the seeds from falling on the budgies.
Vacuuming under it is a bit of a pain, but I found that I can lift one corner of the finch cage up enough to reach the vacuum tube all the way to the back, and then go over and do the same to the other side.

Thanks. It might have been one of your cages that inspired me.cindy wrote: It looks great!

Before connecting the cages together I have even slipped the trays inside, setting them on top of the grates.

Love it!
Great job! Maybe you should put an extra light lower for the budgies though?

Yeah, I have seen a few F040's connected, great cages for non breding birds, especially if you have a large flock

Patience, patience, patience.
And somebody at the other end to keep chasing them back towards you. Or else a long-handled net as well as the one you are using inside the cage, so you can swing it at the other end of the cage to keep chasing them back towards you.
And patience, patience, patience.........

Re: I Connected Two Cages Together
Agreed. When I had to catch some to take to the bird fair, I could NOT get them, for the life of me. So I had to get my son to chase them back to my end, and that made quick work of it.Nerien wrote: And somebody at the other end to keep chasing them back towards you. Never thought of waving the long net on the outside to chase them back. I'll try that next time.
But having to stand on a stool at the same time also complicates things. ;)

Re: I Connected Two Cages Together
Try standing on that stool, trying to catch a specific bird, alone, waving nets, when you have bad knees, bad back, bad right arm, bad vision, and a slight permanent case of vertigo.
Gets really exciting!
(amazing how just plain stoo-pid we can choose to be sometimes, huh?)
