Budgies!!

Post by Martie » Wed Oct 09, 2013 4:52 pm

As many of you know, we had our annual show in Buffalo, NY this past Saturday and it was a huge success! Our club has worked hard over the past few years to jazz up our show and increase participation and this year really showed the fruits of all those efforts.

I am on Cindy's list for a pair of her gorgeous English Budgies - and I am not-too-patiently waiting for new babies to be born. :)

So, I go to our show - and set up my table - and who is right next to me, but a fairly large English Budgie breeder with several cages full of gorgeous big fluffy rainbow colors!

I know so many of you will understand what this was like - and I, of course, caved fairly quickly. So now, I have some beautiful budgies to play with while waiting for Cindy's to be born and grow up a bit.

Here is Lola:

And Lulu (She has a dilute yellow wash to her face that doesn't show well in this photo):

I didn't get a great photo of the boys - but will do so when they've settled a little more. Here's what I did get - Louis and Lonnie:

Please excuse the rust spots on the cage - it's an old one! My last budgie was my childhood buddy so any and all advice will be very welcomed! I also am really not up on mutations - so if anyone wants to identify any, would love that, too.

LOL!!! It is so easy to give in to temptation!!!!
They are gorgeous!!!! They look good!! They are so easy and eat just about anything...pellets, good seed mix....they love oats!! Egg food, veggies, they love kale, collard greens, broccoli tops and romaine!

I to was bitten by that budgie bug....the breeders that some of my birds came from were friends that were in the group of vendors in our cluster of tables at the shows!!!!

Enjoy your new babies, they are so much fun. You can leave them in a little group, they love company. I keep 3 to 4 youngsters in one large cage, they play, groom each other.

Beautiful, congrats! Seems like more and more are getting onto these English Budgies, they are quite popular in my area.

Thank you Deb, Cindy & Sally! Cindy, I am still laughing at myself. It is so much fun to have all that budgie chatter in the house. They are eating a mixture of my finch mix, oats and white millet - millet sprays, kale, green endive, and LOVE my egg food. They've poked around at the quinoa and broccoli, but no big takers yet. So sweet!

Honestly, I was so mesmerized by all the beautiful colors and couldn't make a decision, so I told the breeder what I was attracted to most and asked her to pick me out a couple of pairs. I would have stood there all day.

So, now I will get to play around with them for a few months before setting them up to breed. Here I go! :)
