So my BF-PB-SFYB and BF-PB-YB pair abandoned their single chick yesterday

. I found the chick burried under nesting material, ice cold, and Not moving...I was conviced I had lost the chick. My garage was at 50 degrees and the chick hadn't been brooded for at least seven hours! I layed the lifeless chick by the heater, just by chance, while I fed the other birds their eggfood. I picked up the chick to go bury it and when I Did I saw its wing move just a bit! I rushed inside to warm up the chick and within 10 minutes it was screaming for food! I'm on day two of feeding the now 15 day old chick, and so far everything Is going great! To think I almost buried the poor thing! I know I have a long way to go but I thought I would share some pictures along the way (hoping He makes it)!

This was just after a feeding so excuse the dirty paper towels.

Beautiful chick! What are the color possibilities? How did you warm him up?

Thanks! He's right at that awkward stage before his pin feathers open up. I think he's quite cute as well, just trying to Not get too attached yet. I warmed him up with a space heater at first, then towels hot from the dryer and then moved him to a brooder once it was warmed up. I honestly still can't believe He made it, the only chicks I've felt that cold are dead ones

Color possibilities for the pair are:
25% DFYB males
25% SFYB males
25% GB hens
25% YB hens
This one Is looking like a DFYB male or YB female. I'm hoping for a male as I don't have any BH-DFYB males in my flock!

I'm very happy he made it and how can you not get attached?! I just started with my Gouldians and am pretty much hooked with the exception of them stressing me out during breeding. Btw, you are like 30 minutes away from me! I am in Tomball.

That's awesome you're in Tomball! Maybe we could swap bloodlines one day? I raise my Gouldians in the garage with little suplemental heat so they are hardy birds! I get attached to all my birds but I'm trying to hold off on this guy until he's almost weaned as so many things can go wrong with hand feeding. My gouldians stress me too, I have several young first time breeders this year that haven't quite figured it out. Another pair of mine will give me silver chicks but after three clutches of infertile eggs I'm starting to loose hope. Again they are young, the hen Is just a year old. The Do everything else perfect, I just don't think they're mating.

That sounds like a great idea! And that pair will get it right eventually. It just takes time. I'm a newbie with gouldians so I am still learning and it has been a great experience thus far.

Chris103: Do you raise English Sparrows? I had several which traveled with me in the truck. They loved it! My special male, Sweetheart, passed away in 2012 at the age of 13. He was the sweetest bird. I didn't know anyone raised them. Your Gouldian chick looks great! He's a lucky bird.
