New addition(building) to avairy?

Need help! I have been raising finches for last 6 years in a large outdoor avairy and now I'm just finishing a smaller addition. The new smaller(10L x 3W x 9H) one is going to be for my finches and the large one will be for Ausrtralian Paraketts. I loose the finches in the large one due to size. My question is can I add my excessing finches and ones I intend to buy soon into the new avairy at the same time with a short(2 wks) quaritine time?

I am sure that most people on this forum would tell you that you really must quarntine the birds no matter what. I have never done that because I always know who I have bought my birds from and I introduce them pretty quickly. I think it would be a matter of if you want to chance it. If you buy from a pet store I think you will be taking a chance not to.

I have always quaritined for a full 4 wks, but I will be buying from trusted breeders and want the transition to go quickly.

Sounds like you have a standard quarantine time frame. I'd keep your usual quarantine since you know it works. Why risk the health of your existing flock?

I think I will. I just remember hearing years ago where someone suggested that if you were starting a new avairy that you could put all you birds in at one time. Sounds good if only they were all medicated(worm-out, can't think of them all) and health - that way there would be no territorial problems and all. Common sense will provile tho and I will go a full 4 wks of quaritne(sp).

That is correct..releasing new birds into a flight that has already been sectioned off into territories by the existing birds is always a problem.

I agree with what everyone has said, but if you intend to release a fair amount of finches at the same time into an existing enclosure it also reduces the fighting as the exiting birds have too many new "intruders" to focus on.

So if possible releasing 3 pairs at once will reduce aggression significantly or if there are only 2 - 4 existing pairs releasing 2 pairs will have the same effect.

If you have only one pair you whish to introduce you can also quarantine an existing pair, obviously one that is not breeding or nest building, for a couple of days and release them all at the same time.
