My First Canary Clutch how to color up

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

My First Canary Clutch how to color up

Post by Learning Finch » Thu May 08, 2014 10:19 am

My first clutch hatched a week ago. My Canarys are in a large aviary with many finch. I feed a coloring egg food daily. When do I feed coloring. Do I wait until the chick's stop feeding from parents and separate. The father is a red factor and mom is a red factor and white mix.

If you want to colorfeed the chicks with
canthaxanthin you could wait until they are weaned and then remove them from the avairy and colorfeed them separately. Thereby avoiding possibly altering the plumage of any yellow birds with the canthaxanthin.
If I remember correctly, they will start going through their baby moult at four weeks.
