breeding the zebras
i have today paired up a male and female , i have put 3 types of nest boxes in their breeding cage 2 bamboo type and i small topless nest box i have also placed nesting material inside them, i have given them food, plenty of fresh water and also some crushed oyster shell. the male seems to be checking out the nest boxes but the female doesn't seem that interested at the moment, is there anything im missing or does it just take time.

I just posted on another thread about this. You just today paired two finches, set them up in a cage with plenty of nests, then sat back and waited for some action! 
Doesn't this sound just like people--he's interested and she's not! She has to get in the mood!
Seriously, Stephen, you have to let them have time to settle in. Some pairs will bond quickly, others can take months, others dislike each other forever. Are we talking Zebras? Whatever species, be sure and read the breeding information at the FIC, linked at left, so you know what to expect. It takes a lot of patience to breed finches--as a general rule for the most common species, I figure 2 weeks from start of incubation to hatching, then 3 weeks from hatching to fledging, so a long 5 weeks from the time they first start their family till you get to see them out of the nest. Then you still have 2-4 weeks till weaning. The waiting can wear you down!
