New Blue Gouldians

I just bought 2 blue gouldians from the finchfarm. They're in their own cage for now and appear very healthy and busy. I know they should be quarantined but for how long and what do I absolutely have to give them medication-wise even if they behave and look perfectly healthy?

rancho2...congrats!!! You must post pics . Did you ask the breeder if they have already been treated with any meds? I always do this, rather than over medicating their tiny bodies. I also always quarantine any new birds for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 90 days. It depends...for example... When I receive birds from across the country, I give them a longer time in quarantine so they have more time to adjust to their new environment. Local birds are usually in a 30 day quarantine.

the finchfarm suggested ronex for 3-5 days but that was it. I gave them electrolytes and seed with vitamins anyway. when you quarantine, what exactly do you look for? right now you'd never know they just got off a long flight and are in a cage instead of an aviary. they're talking up a storm and doing everything like any healthy looking bird. just don't want to medicate if it's not necessary.

My quarantine meds include Avian Insect Liquidator (spray for mites & lice), S76 (for possible airsac mites) and then after the S76 treatment is finished (after the 3 weeks), I use Worm Away. That's my protocol. But I usually wait 1 week before starting the protocol to give the new birds time to settle in. During the first few days I add NV Powder to their water. Hope this helps

There should be no reason to give them ronex which is for Protozoal infections.

Oh...you asked what I look for...use white paper towels so you can look at their poop. Also look for excessive scratching, any discharge from eyes/nose and puffed feathers. I bought finches from the finch farm and they were all healthy. I still followed my protocol to be on the safe side. Take things slow and be careful to not over medicate their tiny bodies .
