They're here!! And a few questions....

Picked up my little societies today from the animal shelter. It was LOUD in there! They've been living in the same cage they were surrendered in- about 18" wide with dowel perches all covered in poo. The transfer to my flight cage went smoothly. They're a little unsure about the variety of perches (especially the green sandy perch) and they're still figuring out this whole flying thing. And I guess I'll need a bigger swing, since that's where they decided to roost tonight. The poor little crested got the short end of the stick.

My question is regarding sexing. I think I might have all females, but I'm not sure. They're all pretty quiet right now because of the new surroundings. The brown and white (non-crested) is by far the most talkative, but no telltale puffy dance. He/she and the fawn tend to pair off, but I did see the crested preening the fawn as well. I might get a buddy for the crested, but I want to make sure I know what I have first.

All in all, I think they've settled in well. Seem to be enjoying the quiet. I made sure to see all of them drink. They also pigged out on millet. I doubt they've had it before. That being said, I'm not sure how much of the seed they're eating. Maybe tomorrow they'll eat more of that??

Congrats. As for sexing just wait, watch and listen. Once the settle in the males should start singing. No other way to sex them.

Get on the internet, and look for 'male Society song' on utube. Play it to your birds and watch what happens.

Glad you finally got your feathered babies. Enjoy them.
