Society suddenly bald around ears

Post by Kiishka » Tue Oct 14, 2014 5:03 pm

Question for you knowledgeable folks- my little crested society has suddenly, in the past two days, gone bald around his ear holes. They don't seem to be inflamed, and he's not itching excessively. Any idea what's going on? He doesn't appear to be molting.

Hi Kat, did you ever figure out what was going on with your little Socies balding ears?

I noticed that no one responded to your post. I didn't see it until now.

I was wondering if this problem has continued (?) If it has, is it possible that someone is plucking your little Socie's head? Are there other birds in the cage with him, who might be taking preening to a whole new level, and pulling feathers?

Let us know how things are going. :-)

It looks like moulting. Right now I have a few moulting baby societies coming into their grown-up feathers and a few of them look like zombies right now with bald cheeks and quills coming up out of everywhere.

Hi,

I'm seeing this with my baby societies as well. They are about 7 weeks. At this point is this the normal time that they lose their baby feathers?
