Can you tame store brought zebra finches? and diet questions

Post by Nebelung97 » Wed Jan 28, 2015 2:33 pm

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you could tame store brought zebra finches; if so how? Mine dont freak out when i put my hand in the cage, but will avoid my hand, sometimes( rarely) they will stand near my hand but move away soon. Also Do they eat butterfly caterpillars I sometimes put them in my greenhouse( Where I have butterflies) and I worry if they would eat the caterpillars. Thank you!

Regarding taming store bought Zebras.
Normally most finches are not easy to tame , unless they were hand raised, and even then quite often they become untamed once the fledge. They are not really the kind of birds that enjoy hands on care. That said, some people do have moderate success, and there is some information on the Forum somewhere about how to go about it, written I believe, by Mia Carter.

If you want a bird that will handtame etc. you should be looking at getting a very young baby Budgie to handraise, or some other of the hookbill family.

Regarding the butterfly catarpillars, I really have no idea. Let's hope someone else will chime in with this Information.

Good luck
