My New Indoor Aviary.

Post by HeyItsRaymond » Fri Mar 20, 2015 5:17 pm

The aviary is finished. Just need to add a few trim pieces and finish adding perches, plants, etc....

For about $120 (and about 6 hours of work) I built an aviary that is 3-4 times the size of the cage that cost $499 at the store.

My finches don't know what to do with all the space.

HeyItsRaymond

Looks great!

Many years ago, I had something similar for my Love Birds. Size wise, it was great, but cleaning it was a pain in the neck. I found, that because it was wood, it started to get smelly after a few years, no matter how much I scrubbed it. I hope you have better luck :-)

HeyItsRaymond AWESOME!! What are the dimensions? Also, how do you clean the bottom? Did you make a pull out tray like most cages have? Or are those red plastic buckets built into the aviary as waste disposal, or are they JUST holding it up off the ground. It looks amazing, I'd LOVE to do something like this... like you said as a cage this size is a half a grand, which is just ABSURD!!! Just wanted to compliment you on your work, and ask you those couple of questions. Oh and what did you use for the wiring? Is it chicken coup wire? Great job, also best of luck!!

The flight looks good! I think it might be considered a flight, not an aviary, due to its size. It looks like both ends have a door, which makes servicing it much easier. When I built my walk-in aviary, I painted it, to make it easier to clean. How is the bottom made?

Hey, that looks great! It probably would have taken me an entire weekend and four trips to the hardware store. Good job!
