Hello Everyone.
A question popped into my mind, when I saw a bottle of carrot juice sitting in my fridge. Can our Feathered Friends benefit from carrot juice ( all natural, no addictives) ?
Now before I am reminded of how imortant fresh water is for birds, let me clarify ; I don't mean juice instead of water. What I was thinking, is offering a bit of juice, to see if they would even try it (?). I've noticed, that most of my kids, are not real carrot fans. I've tried whole carrots, carrot sticks, chopped, shaved, grated.... and the reaction, is always kinda less than 'Woohoo!' Some eat a bit, others pick at it, while some, just go...'yech, you eat it.'
Has anyone ever tried offering their birdlings carrot juice, or any other type of all natural fruit juices for that matter of fact ???

I would mix it into their egg food. I don't think my canaries would like the liquid form, but who knows. I know parrot people give some natural juices to their birds...not a lot, just as a treat.
Have you tried steamed/boiled carrots? My canaries like carrots, but only when I shred it really fine with a microplane grater:

Hi Anna.
I haven't tried cooked carrots, 'cause I figure, that most of the nutrients are lost into the water. I have tried steamed, and they just looked at it, and then looked at me with 'that' look
.
I have used a fine grater, and as mentioned above they will eat a very little bit, but not enthusiastically (mostly poke around at it).
I might try a tiny bit of juice in a little bowl, and see what everyone thinks. If they try it , fine, and if they don't, then they don't. One way or the other, I guess it won't hurt them either way. Or maybe drizzle it over their greens, like salad dressing, lol

Mine aren't big fans of carrots either, and I've offered every kind I could find. I even tried some from an organic store that were purple and yellow. They still weren't impressed.

I have never seen purple and yellow carrots before
didn't know they came in these colours
.
As to carrots in general, can't figure out why they are not more enthusiastic about them. I was going to say, maybe it's a colour thing, but obviously that's not the case, lol.

I freaked out when I first saw them...they were in a small bag for about $6, and I hated to spend that much, but I was amazed at the colors! I think there were reddish ones too!
