Split band purchase

Post by MarlonLionheart » Wed Sep 23, 2015 2:45 pm

Hi all, new to the site and wondering if I could get some advice.

I live in the Caribbean where we don't get a full supply of pet products due to the limited demand for them, and this is the situation I face with trying to find split bands for by Zebras/Budgies

Can anyone suggest somewhere that I can do SAFE online (credit card) purchases from.

I've asked a couple of friends in NY but they know nothing of pets supplies (one of them actually though split bands were some type of socks) so you guys are my last hope.

Look in a craft store, or such type, for Perler Beads. That's what I use. I cut them in half with a pill cutter, & then with a utility knife slit the circle. They're plastic & work very well as a split band.

MarlonLionheart. Welcome to the FINCHforum! There is lots of great reading at the Finch Information Center located at the top left of your screen! There you can learn more about your finches. Unfortunately I do not have any information to give to you about bands, though I know we have many members that will know. Enjoy the forum!

The National Finch & Softbill Society is switching over from plastic split leg bands to a rubber band that is very easy to apply and will stay on even the smallest waxbill, and you can pay by Paypal. www.nfss.org/shop/bands/

L&M Leg Bands does not take credit cards over the internet, so with them, you print out your order form and then mail it in, or you call them. www.lmbirdlegbands.com

Red Bird Products is another place that sells leg bands, but I can't seem to connect with their site right now. www.redbirdproducts.com

Laraine at www.ladygouldian.com carries leg bands, accepts credit cards, and I've never had a problem using my credit card at her site.

Thanks for the responses all

@finchandlovebird I actually came across this option in my searches, but my only concern would be how to insert the beads on the legs without an applicator tool (like what the bands come with) This is my first experience with finches and since I'm accustomed to larger budgies, I feel like I going break the finches when I do hold them. How do you apply them ?

@delray Thanks

@DanteD716 I'm from Trinidad (southernmost Island)

@Sally Thanks for that list....I came across http://www.ladygouldian.com and they did seem legit, chances are if I do decide to go with the split bands instead of the beads I would purchase from them.
