What time of day do you feed your birds?

Post by flyover » Fri Sep 25, 2015 8:15 am

Not a "what" question, but a "when" question:

I have always fed my birds at the crack of dawn. They are most active and it seems like the best time to clean up.

But I have had a shift in my work schedule and now have to leave the house about an hour before sunrise. I hate waking my birds up well before their timed lights come on.

Does anyone do regular feedings in the late afternoon? Do the birds even care? Can they adjust?

I have found that my birdlings are very flexible, plus there is always enough food in their cups for them that is left over for the next day.

They adjust to your schedule.

I am not a morning person (although I have to get up early).....I basically drag myself across the floor getting myself together in a sleepy haze.

So at night when my birds are settling to sleep, I change water, fill up all their seed and get the mashed egg ready in bowls in the fridge.

So in the morning when they get up all I have to do is put their mashed egg in the cages. And everything is all ready for them

I don't have a set time. I refill or clean cups whenever. I always have millet hanging so they never go without some type of food.

I used to feed my birds in the morning too. Then work got in the way and I would feed the when I came home....it was a nice de-stressor. Now I'm back to being at home and I feed whenever. The seeds are changed once a day, there's always dry egg food and pellets if they run out and they get fresh food when I know it won't be in there too long to spoil.

I feed my birds in the morning, around 7 or 8 AM. I just make sure that the amount will last them until the next day.

I feed seed, pellets and dried foods either in the morning or late afternoon depending on my schedule...Soft foods are given early morning.often they fill up on soft foods they barely make a dent in the seed.
