Maximum nuber of societies used to foster one clutch

Post by finchman » Sat Mar 12, 2016 10:14 am

Currently I have 4 societies (3 female and one male) sitting on a clutch of 6 fertile gouldian eggs. I have always heard to use pairs or trios or else they are more interested in socializing than nesting. Should I remove one of the females? Or just leave the 4 birds in there? So far there ha been a bird on the nest at all times (sometimes 2-3) during the day; and of course all piled in at night. :D

Doesn't really sound like a problem unless no one bird is covering the eggs. If the eggs are not covered well then they may have cold spots and uneven incubation.

Few years ago my 4 male societies raised gouldian chicks very successfully. You can click this link for details,
