Nest Question

Post by lnlovesorange » Thu Mar 17, 2016 4:44 pm

Just wondering. I've heard that Gouldians like a different sort of nest than other species like Zebs & Societies (who will nest ANYWHWERE) Wondering what is the best kind of nest to buy.... Also any specifics on nesting material, like has anyone paid mind to some material their LG's liked MORE than others? Thanks all

I make my own nest boxes out of plywood. Not unlike those in the stores.

As to nesting material I use shredded paper. My document shredder makes 1/4 inch strips so I throw a couple of fistfuls into the box to a depth of close to 2 inches.
Given some fresh grass to nibble on they will carry some of it into the nest.
In general, Gouldians don't seem to be terribly fussy about nest material.
The dark privacy of the box seems more important to them.

I make deep dark boxes with an entrance hole, the darker the better.
For nesting material I leave grass grow long in a corner of my yard. I give them pieces of grass fresh and dry. Fresh grass is easy for them to shape.
