Warming up to us!

Post by Ihaveafinch » Sun May 29, 2016 9:31 pm

Hello, I acquired two spice finches a little while ago, its a long story but basically my girlfriend received them from a coworker as a gift (pets should never be gifts). We were accepting of them and now I love them! I'm not sure if they are male & female, but they cuddle and love each others company. I know I definitely have a at least one male because he was singing the other day. At any rate I've had them for about a month and they are comfortable in their cage. I am trying to get them to come to me so the end goal is that I can handle them and pick them up. I have been putting my hand in the cage and feeding them millet. They have slowly come closer but still wont hop onto my fingers. Please let me know if I'm going about this the right way. Thanks!

Usually it is fairly difficult to tame adult finches, but I won't say it has never been done. I simply don't have the patience to try it. I agree, pets should never be gifts, glad this one has worked out OK.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier for other members to answer locale-specific questions later on.
