Opinions change when you find that people don't like birds
I have a couple of fresh water aquariums. I belong to a local aquarium club. I had done some trimming in my tanks and had some plants to give away, so I posted a notice and a fellow was coming over to pick them up.
I had met him before, very nice fellow. However, he arrived, admired my tanks, I showed him the birds and he wasn't keen on them, nor did he want to say Hi to my dogs.
Suddenly I don't think the guy is so nice anymore! I know there are nice people out there who don't like animals (I think?) but I realized they are not people I want to hang with.
I thought about all my friends, and although they occasionally think I am nuts about animals, they are all animal lovers and keepers.
Anyone else change your opinion about someone once you discover they don't like your animals?

I bought a little miniature dashund over the summer. I teach school and took her with me one day during our teacher pre-planning days. Everyone just went bonkers over my little dog and she was the hit of the party......except ..... our lady in the front office. She told me that she didin't like dogs.
Now everytime I see her I think about that. How in the world could somone not like a little 2 pound miniature dashund?

A chap in my local pub a couple of years back said he didn't agree with people keeping birds...thought they should be free and not behind bars.
I said 'fair enough I respect your opinion' He then excused himself as he was joining his wife at a table for a pub snack.
As I left the pub I passed him and said goodnight and hoped he was enjoying his roast chicken..."Looks very nice...but my birds get to see tomorrow"....exit pub ...point made.

You know, before I got my birds, I was afraid of birds, and I went with finches because they are so more independent than other birds. Now, I think at some point we might try some other birds as well. I can't tell you the joy these birds have brought to my life, moreso I think than any pet we've had. My opinion does change about people who don't get the whole pet thing. For a while we had quite the zoo going, and people would always make comments, and my thought was, they're all loved and taken care of, what's it to you?
Currently we've just got the zebs, the canary, and the aquarium that houses our guppies and dwarf frog. In the last little while though, we've had cats, mice, a hamster, and a rabbit. With the exception of the cat, that was all at the same time. After our cat passed, we got the bunny, but had to rehome her as my son turned out to be allergic.
I forgot where I was going with this, so I'll just stop. Haha.
For the record, I don't so much dislike dogs as I fear them, but I'm getting better.
