Hi,
I purchased a male and female pair of African Green Finches as juveniles last year. It has been just about 1 year and they are showing signs of being interested in mating. He is feeding her, sings to her constantly during the day and I have seen him attempt to mate with her. The issue is that I DO NOT want to raise chicks. My question is if I don't ever put a nest in the cage and they are so interested in mating, will there ever be a risk of aggression between them if their mating is met with a nest less cage? Thanks in advance.
They seem very happy with each other at this time.

Is this a pair of Green Singing finches? I haven't raised any, but I think they can get aggressive while breeding. I'd just keep an eye on them. I have a pair of Gray Singing finches, which are closely related, and they don't have a nest. I have occasionally found an egg in the seed hopper.

Green Singer males can get aggressive with their mates during breeding season, especially if the female is not receptive to their advances. He will chase her around relentlessly, and at times will pull some of her feathers out.
That said, if your two are happy together, then they must be on the same page, which means they will breed, and they will lay eggs.
You mentioned that you got them as juvies. Are they siblings by any chance? In which case they really shouldn't be allowed to raise a family together.
