Midget and M & M are satisfied, oh no..

Post by Babs _Owner » Wed Dec 14, 2016 11:37 am

Sooooo....

Putting my sweet society female in the nest with my blind gouldie Midget has worked out great! The two of them have been getting along very well.

Now a little tooooooo well!

Seems the little society gal has figured out that Midget is trying to mate with her by pouncing on her head in the foliage. So, now she is accommodating him by making sure she positions herself JUST RIGHT to finish the act. ;;)

They are in a cage right by my desk while I work, so I had a front row seat for all the action yesterday. Which went on despite me repeatedly pstttting at them to stop.

Today, the dirty birds are happily grooming themselves and bathing together.

Hmmmm wonder what a gouldie society cross would look like. :-\

Babs, LOL!!

That's why I finally separated my little zebra/society "pair". They were getting a little too friendly with each other! I moved her to the society cage and got him a hen. Both have completely forgotten about each other.

I wish I could solve it by separation, however this female has figured out he's blind, how to communicate with him despite the language differences and overall brought his quality of life way WAY up.

With his vision issues, I really can't put him through a severe change in the hopes another bird will be so amazing with him.

So, if any eggs pop up I think I will just replace with duds and let her get nice and broody. That way, hopefully, she will naturally thwart off his advances for a while.

I'm pretty sure these two species can't hybridize(?) Anyone know if this is possible?

LOL!
Well, it's as they say, nature will find a way...

Now, I'm curious....what would society/gouldian birds look like? Is it even genetically possible?? Would the chicks be hybrids and unable to breed? What would the males sing like? Would it sound more like a society or a gouldian?

Okay, I'm down the rabbit hole............ :-O

There was a point where Midget was having SUCH a good time I thought for sure he was going to knock them both on the cage floor.

It was really difficult to be in a serious professional conversation with the unbelievable VOLUME of the sounds emitting from that bird.

You know that sound they make whilst getting groovy in the nest. Well this kiddo was just 3 feet from my face.

I'm muting the phone going
:-T "Pssstt for pete's sake!! PSSSttt", trying desperately to glide back into the rhythm of my work chat.

:)] "Yes, certainly sir, I'll forward that and have it taken care of right away"

:-T MUTE AGAIN " OMG! STOP IT! GET OFF HER!!"

:)] "Oh sorry sir, your phone broke up could you repeat that?"

Inside I am [-o< praying this man does not dare ask what that sound is in the background [-o<

Reminds me of the time I was downstairs feeding the birds-they had woken up shortly before-only to hear a horrendous noise coming from the budgie cage. Fearing the worst, I run in to find Banana and Mango not fighting but, uh, gettin' busy!

I must've stood there with my mouth hanging open for five minutes!

Now I know why birds wake up and start singing so early in the morning, it's the birdie 'love hour'
