Hi, I'm new to "finching", I have three society finches. About 16 days ago they laid 5 eggs. My question is, how do I know if the eggs are fertile?? And what do i do if the eggs are not fertile. How much longer to i give them to hatch? And do I just take the eggs away?? At least one of the finches are always on the eggs. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any advise.

When you're finished reading the info at the FIC, you'll have to decide if you have any males. If you don't have any males, the eggs will be infertile (unless you just got the hens within 2 weeks before they started laying eggs).

If you don't mind having babies, give it another week before you toss the eggs. If you don't want more finches, go ahead and take the eggs away. As long as there is a nest in there, the hens may continue to lay eggs. If you have males/females, you will have babies. Before you let them have a lot of babies, you need to figure out what you will do with all those finches--more babies mean more cages, etc.

So did you decide if you want the socities to have babies or just toss the eggs. Did any eggs hatch yet?
