bald spot

My female gouldian has a bald spot (quite small) above her beck between her eyes. They have iodine in their water, and so hopefully it's not that. Do you think she has a fungus or mites or something. I was going to put some s76 in their water tonight and maybe give them a bath in it tomorrow. Is that a good plan?

My female Gouldian had the same spot. It was corrected with iodine.
What kind are you using?

liquid iodine by morning bird. they also have kelp in their egg food.

I too am interested in this post. I have a gouldians I posted about previously whose face started out like that and not is looking somewhat worse. I treated her for mite althought I was sure it wasn't that..... I have put liquid iodine in the water etc.....
I now just personally think it is something missing in her diet and she will hopefully look better soon.

Does you bird appear to feel fine and eating? This bird is just finishing up raising her second clutch. I am going to rest her and not let her have anymore this year.

i suppose she is starting too. Right now it's tiny spot above her beak. I was just using the maintainence dose, but I increased it last night to the balding dose.

My hen's head was getting worse and worse. I thought it was a mite problem, but after her last clutch I increase the iodine to 6 drops per 2 oz of water. About 3-4 weeks later, she has full head feathers.
The cock never had a problem with missing feathers so I'm guessing it had to do with chick reproduction.

Donna, yes my hen looked very similar to yours...maybe even a little worse. It was only one side of her head though.

ive got the same problem with my goulds but just after they finished the moult the feathers just grow back. and with that i didnt add any thing to there diet or that and now looks fine

This is absolutely true, but in my opinion something has to missing in their diet to cause this. I've only seen this in 2 of my hens so my thinking is that it's the production of eggs that causes the deficiency.

I have a few birds that get this also and it is always during the later stages of the breeding season.
