The type of feeder I use

This is a picture off the type of feeder i use.It is fixed on the wire with wing nuts.It comes in two pieces or three pieces.I don't purchase the husk collector as I have made my own.It easily holds enough seed for a fortnight for a dozen birds.

The husk part is made from a 20 litre drum cut down with a jigsaw.When the birds fly off the husk lands in the drum notice the high sides around the seed.

In the drum the dishes hold sprouted seed and meal worms.I have yet to move them to the bottom drum.I am sure the zebs would,No zebs in those aviaries.have one pair in a cage.

Top setup!

Similar to what I have in a couple of my aviaries. Mine are attached to the front of the aviary though which still means the birds get disturbed off the nest at feeding time. My next aviaries will definately have a rear lane similar to yours. How do you find the paper clip for holding the seeding heads. I've tried everything from rat traps to pegs and various other clips but nothing seems to hang on tight enough with half a dozen parrot finches swinging off them. Now I just use a legth of wire with a loop on the end.

all I use is a piece of wire (5mm square bird wire) fold it in half and then push the stalks of the seed heads through that. havent had any trouble with the seed heads coming out when the birds land on them (yet)

Its a large clip costs 50c each.really good to use.the onty birds that seem to really rip break the grass out are chestnuts.I have seen the rat traps before.Thats where I got the idea,alot cheaper and not as tacky.You need the older ones they have a good spring.will take a photo tomorrow if i remember.

I've been looking for a feeder just like that to put in my aviary, but I can't seem to find them when I google. Do you know what they are called? Who makes it?

Sorry Bill,Some bloke makes them in his shed in Melbourne.And sells them to Petshops.They wont give out any contacts.They retail for $50 dollars plus depending on the shop.I pay $30 each as i have bought so many.Dont know how much it would cost to freight them your way.Or if it would be viable.Or mabe if i took a heap of close ups of one not on door with measurements you could get one quoted by a sheetmetal worker.

you can also make them using plywood. about 3/8" thick plywood is strong enough to hold 5kg. used to have a couple of homemade ones when I had budgies years ago

That explains why I can't find them.

I'm going to explore as Mickp suggested and see if I can design a custom one like yours. I only need one, until I decide to build more aviaries. hehe..

I really like the idea of a 'husk' collector. Would save a lot of clean up. Would you change anything on the setup you have?

The only thing im not 100% happy with is the husk collector.I currently use a scoop to empty them every few weeks at most.It would be easier if you could easily remove drum from wire to empty.But then it would be lose on the wire, or not as good at collecting the husk.

If you make one they are two peices one on each side of the wire held together with wing nuts.The seed flows through the wire.
