Finch naps during the day

Post by Tim & Carol » Tue Feb 10, 2009 9:39 pm

I'm a new finch owner and new to this forum. I just got two Spice finches
(Tim & Carol) last week. Both male & female overall seem very healthy. They are eating, drinking and adapting seemingly well. However, during the day, after an hour or more of fluttering about, the female will go to the perch and start napping and the male will soon follow her lead. After a 20-30 min nap they both awake and continue their activity with renewed spirit. Should I be concerned? Anyone else have a napping finch?
-Thanks for any input. -paul

Yes, all my finches have naps several times during the day and it seems all my finches will nap at the same time even though they are in 12 different cages! Every one of them will quiet down and find a spot whether it's on a perch or on the floor of their cage - no one moves. It's almost eerie. Then about 15 - 20 minutes later they are all active and singing again. It's rather cool! :)

I have a pair of zebra finches with 4 fledgeling and they all take short naps during the day.
