zebra looking at its belly...for what?

Post by ac12 » Sat Mar 21, 2009 3:20 am

I have a zebra behaving like I've not seen him do before.
His feathers are tight for a lot of the time, when they used to be somewhat puffed up, like the other birds.
But the odd behavior is that he will look down his belly to between his legs. Kind of like he is looking for something.
But he isn't picking at his belly.

I'm puzzled and ready to pull him out and put him in a small hospital cage where I can put a warm lamp on him, and control his food (if I need to give him specific food/nutrients).

My birds do that alot when they are preening. I wouldn't pull him out just for that reason unless he is acting sick and sleeping alot. You could give him a little extra heat and that may help.

Thanks Donna
I'll leave him in the cage, and just keep an eye on him.
