Spice finch tail feather moulting?

Post by rkn » Wed Apr 22, 2009 8:03 pm

I have 3 male spices and one of them is sort fo lost his tail feathers. He looks funny...but he gets around fine, acts normal...so my question is do they moult their tail feathers off? If so how soon do the new long normal feather come back? All 3 spice males get along fine and so not feather loss due to fighting or ??? that I can see. Ideas anyone? He looks like a lil plucked chicken, but way cuter...lol

I am going to guess he was plucked. Common amongst males. 6 weeks for the feathers to grow back (roughly).

Suggest separating him or at least watching him closely to confirm plucking.

Give some feather fast or vitamin supplements if you can.
Goulds, Owls, Gold Breasts, Stars, Zebras, Societies
An obscene number of chicks and eggs
And an incredibly rare St. Goldena Breast finch
Anyone want some finches???
