pearl societies?? better pics 6/6

I stopped by my local bird farm/supplier today and came across these 2 societies...

Sorry the pics aren't great...they are a bit washed out in the tan carrier w/flash on the camera.
I not sure they are top grade "A" pearls...
from what I've read they come in 4 grades(A,B,C,D) depending on color intensity,clarity/definition of pattern,etc., but their colors and pattern look like they carry the pearl traits(silvery head,wings and tail and chocolate self pattern/color on the neck and back).One of them has a bit clearer pattern/color definition than the other.
The supplier had them in with a bunch of other pied societies and they cost me $8/each...
I figured that was quite a bargain if they are pearls!!
I have no idea what sex they (or my other 2 societies) are...haven't heard anyone singing,yet...only chirps from all,so far.
I'm not even sure what males sound like anyway(maybe someone could help me out here,too).
I'll try and get better pics when they're settled into the quarantine cage.
Any input would be appreciated.

Really hard to tell from the colouring of the pics as you say - they really blend in to the carrier colourbackground. But I'd hazard a guess that they are both fawns (tan coloured). Very pretty.

Males will sing a song with different notes - females sound just about exactly like crickets.

I'm going to move your photos so they are stacked vertically, instead of some of them being side-by-side. That way, people don't have to scroll across the screen to see all of the post.

I saw some excellent examples of Society coloring, but now I can't remember where

Hilary, thanks for the links...I've looked at Garrie Landrys' many times and WOW, that Kanji Kawabata site has some amazing birds!!

Here are some better pics of my 2 new guys...

These pics are a bit better than the first... alot closer to their real colors.
One of these guys has a bit more clarity/definition of the colors and pattern...and HE's the only one I've heard sing out of the 4 societies I have(these 2 and the 2 in my aviary already). I'm kinda glad I actually have 1 confirmed male...lol
Any more thoughts about these 2 "pearls" ???

They are very pretty birds. Looks like they have lots of space to fly around in.

Donna,
Their quarantine cage is 4'w x 4'h x 2'd...I set it up with similar plants feeders,etc to my aviary so its not so huge a change when they get put in there.

By the way,
I asked the owner of a local pet shop, who has a 'pair" of pearls, where she got them...
She said she got them from a breeder in Souderton,Pa...
Anyone know who that may be???

I suspect it could be Connie...I was at her place a few weeks ago and she had only 2 pearl males available...no pairs. She has a great set-up and some beautiful birds, though!!!

I'll probably be calling her for another visit, now that I've found out how much I love my stars... She has some amazing yellow headed, isabel stars.

I just thought, if it wasn't her, it would be nice to meet/talk to yet another finch lover who live close to me.

Unfortunately we've never had the pleasure of visiting Connie. Heard all about her for years now, just never got around to making the trip. Gonna have to one of these days.

Know what you mean about finding other finchers. We'd love to find some in our area as well. Apparently everybody keeps buying them cause our niece can't keep them in stock, just don't know where they are going.

One of my pearls originally came from Connie. She's definitely worth a visit. She's got great products, healthy birds, and it's SO worth it to see her set up. The new pics are gorgeous, and at least I think they're pearls.....

That's what we've heard. Our vet has been telling us about her for a couple years now. Quakertown isn't all that far from us, probably only about 2 hours away. I guess since she doesn't really do the email thing, we've never bothered to pick up the phone and set up a visit. Plus I don't think she does Zebras, and I'm afraid if I take the Redhead over there she's gonna want to come home with all kinds of finches.

What is your opinion about the quality of these 2 pearls?
I know 1 is better than the other...and he's been singing and dancing up a storm around her(haven't heard the 2nd one sing, just chirp)...so I'm thinking it's a pair.
Would you breed them to see what you would get?

Connies' is ABSOLUTELY worth the trip...just make sure you have your mind made up before you go if you don't want to go home with some birds...lol Everything she has is beautiful and healthy!!
