Strawberry eggbound ?

My strawberry was fine this morning but was on the bottom of the cage when I came home. I ckecked the nest and there are two new eggs.

I moved her to a smaller cage and draped a damp towel and put a small 50 watt light at the end of the cage. I tried to give her some
calciboost but I don't know how to open her mouth. It looked like she sucked a little from the dropper, but not sure it was enough.
Should I try again later Can you give her to much calicum

The poor male is upset and singing for her.

I just checked on her and she is on the perch and was bobbing her tail like she was trying to shake something out.

Are there possibly other birds in the cage that could have laid as well ? 2 eggs are just not possible as far as i know for just 1 hen. I suppose maybe there is some reason but even with egg binding, there is only space in her system for the 1 egg.

The male, since he is singing, is not singing to cheer her up, he is singing because he wants to mate again. And she is not wiggling her tail to get something out.. she is inviting him to copulate.

Yes you can give too much calcium. I suggest adding it to their water supply and make sure its the only water supply thereby forcing her to drink it. You can put a drop in her mouth but its not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Do you have cuttle bone or other supplements available. Do you offer egg food with crushed egg shells in it? All these are ways to get calcium into their diet and letting them regulate their own needs.

I really don't think she's in the mood She's sitting on the bottom by the light now. She doesn't look good.

They are the only pair in the cage. She has laid the eggs over the last couple of days

I use calciboost in the water, but maybe not enough since she just had a clutch (only 3 eggs).

I am beginning to think that this is a problem with strawberry finches.

Mine laid 9 eggs that were in fertile. I tossed them and she started laying again. She was looking bad for a few days. I put calcium in her water for five days and she is fine now. But I did not toss the last clutch of eggs, I let her sit on them so she wouldn't lay more.

Do you have a nest in her cage? If so, I would be sure to remove it.

I still have her in a seperate cage this morning. She seems a little better.

Do I need to remove the nest with eggs? The male has been sitting.
If she's better tonight could I return her to their cage?

No , I am sorry. I didn't realize that she has eggs in a nest. I would leave that alone then.
